Attention has consistently focused on the quality of teacher preparation, practice, and on-going professional development to improve child outcomes. However, what is missing from research and practice is a focus on the leadership of early childhood programs. To begin to address this emerging research area, this session will focus on the competencies of effective leaders; the relationships between leadership, quality of administrative practice, and program quality; as well as the national context of these issues specific to leaders in Head Start programs.
