As States move forward to support programs improve services for children and families there is an increasing focus on the role of the program leader in the quality equation. Colleagues from McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership have been working in this space and thinking about these issues with directors for a long time. They are finding that a ‘Whole Leadership Approach’ can help directors develop the competencies needed to be effective administrative and pedagogical leaders, steeped in the leadership essentials that result in improved working conditions, organizational supports for teachers’ learning, and organizational climate of their programs. Come to the conversation prepared to engage, create new ideas and share ‘what is working’ and promising approaches your state is enacting.
