A nurturing heart is an essential part of family child care, but quality care is hard to sustain without sound business and professional practices in place. Using the Business Administration Scale for Family Child Care (BAS) as a guide, participants will learn how to measure and improve business and professional practices across 10 dimensions. This interactive session will discuss why assessment of business and professional practices is critical to improving the overall quality of family child care programs and the research demonstrating how high-quality administrative practices promote financial and programmatic stability as well as strong provider-client-community relations. Participants will learn strategies for strengthening business and administrative practices and discover how the BAS can be used to collect data and inform the development of continuous quality improvement plans. In addition, this session will highlight how the BAS is being used in various ways in state QRIS.
