Participants attend our Taking Charge of Change™ (TCC) institute held in August at our training facility in Wheeling, Illinois. The trainers are active participants in the institute while they learn the content of Director’s Toolbox Management Series. Playing this dual role helps ensure they understand the curriculum from both the participants’ and trainers’ perspectives.

The training includes updates to the BAS and Additional Notes. Assessors must participate in the BAS Assessor Recertification webinar within four months prior to their certification expiration date. In addition, participants complete an assessment of learning to determine recertification status.

This session will be held at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) Professional Learning Institute. This session will explore how Illinois and Colorado used statewide surveys to better understand their workforce needs and vulnerabilities. From the survey data, both states identified challenges related to hiring and retaining staff. The presentation will highlight the data and recommend strategies to mitigate turnover. Strategies shared will focus on developing directors/administrators and wage supplement programs for early childhood professionals. Participants will discuss how the Illinois and Colorado strategies may be applied to their states and localities.

This training is designed for individuals who want to ensure that the BAS assessments are valid, reliable, and administered consistently across programs. The training concludes with a reliability test and participants who are 85% or more reliable with the national anchors are eligible to apply for BAS Certification for an additional fee.
