Michael Abel, PhD
Director of Research and Evaluation

Dr. Michael Abel, PhD, is director of research and evaluation at the McCormick Center for Early Childhood Leadership and assistant professor of early childhood education at National Louis University (NLU). He designs and implements original research studies regarding administrative practice in early childhood programs and elementary schools. Mike also chairs the Whole Leadership Committee and oversees the development of the L.E.A.D. Early Childhood™ Clearinghouse. His previous experience includes university instructor and researcher, operations manager of a college-based early childhood institute, child care center director, and manager of a private K-8 academy. He holds an interdisciplinary doctorate in educational leadership policy and foundations as well as master’s degrees in educational administration and early childhood education. He actively serves the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) as the Illinois AEYC Chicago Chapter vice-president and a higher education accreditation peer reviewer, with previous responsibilities including Missouri AEYC president and NAEYC Affiliate Council Executive Committee member.
